Beauvais-Tillé Airport: The Real Distance Ryanair Does Not Tell You

·5 min read

Beauvais marketed as "Paris airport" by Ryanair is 85 km away. Real travel times, costs, transport options, and why many travellers miss their connection.

When Ryanair displays "Paris Beauvais" on your ticket, an uninformed traveller imagines a Paris airport — like Orly or CDG. The reality is different: Beauvais-Tillé is 85 kilometres north of Paris, in the Oise department (60), 1h15 to 1h45 by road depending on traffic. This distance has concrete consequences for your trip, which we witness every week with our clients (see also our dedicated Paris ↔ Beauvais page). Here is what Ryanair and easyJet never fully detail on their booking page.

The real Paris ↔ Beauvais distance

From Gare du Nord or Place de l'Opéra, Beauvais-Tillé sits at:

  • 85 km via the A16 motorway (direct, fastest route)
  • 105 km via the N1 and department roads (backup during A16 congestion)
  • 1h15 in fluid traffic (Sunday morning, nighttime)
  • 1h30 to 1h45 in normal traffic (weekday, office hours)
  • 2h to 2h30 on Friday evenings or long weekends (A16 saturation + Pontoise choke points)

For comparison, CDG is 30 km and Orly 18 km from Paris. Beauvais is 2.5 to 5 times farther.

Why Ryanair calls it "Paris"

The reason is commercial: Ryanair negotiates with secondary European airports rates far below those of major hubs. Beauvais accepts being marketed as "Paris Beauvais" in Ryanair booking systems because it captures the international tourism flow to the French capital — instead of just the local Picardy market.

This airport marketing is legal but misleading: a traveller from Tokyo who buys a Ryanair ticket "Tokyo → Paris" can end up at Beauvais 1h30 from the capital, without being clearly warned during booking. The small print mentions "Beauvais" but the main page displays "Paris".

Transport options from Beauvais

Option 1 — The official Beauvais-Bus (Aerobus) shuttle

The Beauvais-Bus (Aerobus) shuttle is the airport's official transport:

  • Price: €22 per trip (€44 round-trip)
  • Frequency: about 1 departure every 30-40 minutes coordinated with flights
  • Duration: 1h15 to 1h45
  • Arrival: Porte Maillot (17th arrondissement of Paris)
  • From Porte Maillot: another 15-30 minutes by taxi or metro to reach your final address

The limits: the shuttle only leaves when flights land. If your flight arrives at 1 am (Ryanair flies late), the last shuttle of the day may leave without you. You then wait for the first one the next day (6-7 am) or take a taxi at prohibitive prices.

Option 2 — Taxi on the meter

Picardy and Paris taxis serve Beauvais on the meter (no prefectural flat rate). Observed real prices:

  • €130 to €160 during the day, normal traffic
  • €170 to €220 evening, night, weekend, events
  • €250+ for 2-hour trips in heavy A16 saturation

Few taxis agree to wait at Beauvais exit if your flight is delayed, and the rare ones available on the spot apply surge pricing. The worst value option.

Option 3 — Uber and ad-hoc VTCs

Uber X from Beauvais to Paris: estimated €95 to €140 depending on final destination and dynamic pricing. The problem: at 10 pm or midnight, after a Ryanair landing, the number of Uber drivers available at Beauvais can drop to zero. You search for a vehicle for 45 minutes, then accept a surge price.

Option 4 — Private chauffeur VTC booked in advance

The option that solves the Beauvais constraints in a single move: fixed price, guaranteed vehicle, identified driver.

At Dahab, Paris ↔ Beauvais starts at:

  • €156 in Mercedes E-Class (Business Class)
  • €193 in Mercedes V-Class (for family / group)
  • €224 in Mercedes S-Class (First Class)

The price includes: direct A16 route, arrivals hall meet-and-greet with name sign, live flight tracking (if Ryanair is 3 hours late, your driver arrives at the real time), luggage assistance, and tolls.

More expensive than a well-negotiated Uber, but infinitely more predictable. For a flight landing at 11 pm at Beauvais that needs to reach the 15th arrondissement at 1.30 am, it is often the only option that truly works.

The flight + train connection trap

A recurring scenario: the traveller buys a Ryanair Tokyo → Beauvais + a TGV Paris Gare de Lyon → Nice, assuming 2 hours of connection will suffice. In practice:

  • Landing at Beauvais: 2.00 pm
  • Luggage collection: 2.30 pm
  • Beauvais-Bus shuttle: 2.45 pm
  • Arrival at Porte Maillot: 4.20 pm (normal traffic)
  • Metro Porte Maillot → Gare de Lyon: 45 minutes
  • Arrival at Gare de Lyon: 5.05 pm

That is 3 hours 5 minutes between landing and reaching the station. If your TGV leaves at 5 pm, you miss it. A non-refundable TGV ticket costs ~€90. Overspending on a private chauffeur who takes you directly to the station (no metro change) costs €175 and saves you 50 minutes.

Practical tips before booking a Ryanair Beauvais flight

  1. Check the airport in your itinerary — If "Beauvais" (BVA) appears on your ticket, you are NOT arriving in Paris. Accept this reality before booking.

  2. Budget for the final transport — Count €30-45 minimum for shuttle + metro, or €95-160 for direct VTC. The "cheap" Ryanair price melts fast with arrival transport.

  3. Never plan a train or domestic flight connection under 4 hours from Beauvais. Technically possible but extremely risky.

  4. Book your transfer in advance — Dahab accepts reservations up to 2 hours before pick-up time, but last-minute availability is limited during peak evenings (Friday, Sunday). For a flight landing after 10 pm, book at least 48 hours ahead.

  5. Prefer Ryanair flights landing between 10 am and 8 pm if you have the choice — shuttles and taxis are more numerous, prices more reasonable, and your travel fatigue is better managed.
