Three main ways to travel from Paris to Disneyland Paris compared honestly: RER A train, Disneyland shuttle, and private transfer. Real costs, journey times, and which works for which traveller.
Disneyland Paris is 32km east of central Paris, in Marne-la-Vallée. The journey looks short on a map, but the actual experience varies enormously depending on the option you choose. This guide compares the three main ways travellers get from Paris to Disneyland Paris, with honest pros and cons of each.
The three main options
| Option | Cost (one-way) | Journey time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| RER A train | €7.60 / adult | 45–55 min | Solo travellers, light luggage, budget |
| Magical Shuttle (bus) | €25 / adult | 45–75 min | Pre-booked, want a direct service |
| Private chauffeur | €95–139 (whole vehicle, up to 5 pax) | 35–50 min | Families, large luggage, comfort priority |
Option 1: The RER A — cheap, direct, but a workout with kids
The RER A is the regional express train that connects central Paris to Marne-la-Vallée — Chessy, the station right next to Disneyland Paris. Trains run every 10–15 minutes during the day from stations like Châtelet–Les Halles, Gare de Lyon, and Nation.
The good: it's cheap (€7.60 each way), runs frequently, and the station drops you literally at the gates of the park. From the train doors to the park entrance is a 5-minute walk.
The complications:
- The RER A is one of the busiest train lines in Europe. At peak times (morning rush, evening return) you'll likely stand for the journey.
- Châtelet–Les Halles is itself a maze. If you're transferring from another line, factor 10–15 minutes for the walk.
- Steps everywhere. Some stations have no escalators. With suitcases, this is real work.
- The train can break down or be delayed — typical Paris train experience.
Recommended for: solo travellers, couples without kids, anyone with light luggage. If you're staying at a Paris hotel and just visiting Disneyland for the day, the RER A is the right choice.
Not recommended for: families with multiple young children and lots of luggage, especially after a long flight or with disabled travellers. The accessibility on this line is patchy.
Option 2: The Magical Shuttle — Disney's official bus service
Disney runs a coach service called Magical Shuttle from CDG and Orly airports directly to Disneyland Paris hotels. Cost is around €25 per adult one-way, and the bus drops you at your specific Disney hotel.
The good: direct from the airport to your hotel, no transfers, predictable pricing per person. Drivers are used to handling families with luggage.
The complications:
- Scheduled departures only — you might wait 45+ minutes at the airport for the next bus.
- The bus stops at multiple Disney hotels. If yours is the last drop-off, the journey can extend to 75 minutes.
- Per-person pricing means a family of four costs €100 each way. At that point a private transfer (€95–139 for the whole vehicle) becomes equally or more cost-effective.
Recommended for: solo travellers, couples, or small families staying at Disney hotels who want a fixed cost and don't mind waiting at the airport for the next bus.
Not recommended for: anyone on a tight schedule, large families (the per-person pricing adds up), travellers staying at non-Disney hotels (the Magical Shuttle only serves Disney properties).
Option 3: Private chauffeur — door-to-door, your timing
A private chauffeur is the most expensive option in absolute terms but the most flexible. You book in advance, the driver picks you up at any address (your Paris hotel, an airport, an Airbnb), and drops you at any address (the Disney park entrance, your Disney hotel, the Sequoia Lodge, the Newport Bay).
The good:
- Door-to-door, no walking with luggage, no waiting at airports, no schedule constraints.
- Child seats included if requested at booking (without supplement).
- Mercedes V-Class fits 5 passengers + significant luggage comfortably.
- Fixed price for the whole vehicle: €95 (Business sedan), €120 (van), €139 (First Class sedan) — divided across passengers, very competitive for families.
- Your driver tracks your flight or train and adapts to delays.
The complications:
- Requires booking in advance (minimum 3 hours, ideally days ahead for guaranteed availability).
- Higher absolute cost than RER for solo travellers — only makes sense for groups, families, or those prioritising comfort.
Recommended for: families with kids, groups of 3+, anyone arriving at CDG/Orly with luggage and going directly to Disney, anyone with limited mobility, anyone for whom the trip is a special occasion (honeymoon, milestone birthday, multi-generational family trip).
Not recommended for: solo travellers on a tight budget — the RER will always win on pure cost.
What about taxis?
You can take a regular Paris taxi from central Paris to Disneyland — there's no flat fare, so the metered cost is around €70–90 depending on traffic and time of day. From CDG to Disneyland is around €90–110 by metered taxi.
The challenges with taxis are the same as for airport transfers: queue at the airport, no guaranteed child seats, and the metered fare can spike in heavy traffic. For a Disney trip with kids, a pre-booked chauffeur is more predictable.
Which option is best for which traveller?
Solo backpacker on a tight budget: RER A. €7.60 each way, you're at the gates in under an hour. Don't overthink it.
Couple on a romantic weekend at a Disney hotel: Magical Shuttle (if staying Disney) or private chauffeur (if you want the trip to feel special — and the cost difference for a couple is small).
Family of four staying at a Disney hotel: Private chauffeur. €95–139 for the whole vehicle is competitive vs €100/person on Magical Shuttle, and you skip the wait at the airport.
Family of five+ or multi-generational group: Private chauffeur with Mercedes V-Class. The combination of capacity, comfort, and fixed pricing makes it the only sensible option.
Late-night arrival from a long-haul flight: Private chauffeur, regardless of group size. You'll thank yourself.
Day trip from central Paris (back same evening): RER A return ticket. Park-to-Paris is straightforward, the train is right there at park closing.
Common questions
How long is the journey? RER A: 45 min from Châtelet. Private car: 35–50 min depending on traffic. Magical Shuttle: 45–75 min depending on stops.
Can I take a child seat on the RER? Yes, but it counts as a piece of luggage. Lugging it through Châtelet is a hassle. Private chauffeurs can have it pre-installed.
What's the cheapest option for a family of four? RER A at €7.60 × 4 = €30.40 each way, total €60.80 round-trip. Significantly cheaper than any private option, but the experience is what it is.
Is Disney worth visiting if my children are very young? Disneyland Paris has good infrastructure for kids 2+. Under 2, the experience is mostly stress for parents.
Can I park at Disneyland? Yes, but parking is paid (around €30/day) and the car parks are large. For a single visit, transport is easier than driving.
