Paris Airport Taxi Prices 2026: Official Rates for CDG, Orly, Beauvais

"How much does a taxi cost from Paris to CDG?" is one of the most-searched questions by travellers arriving in the French capital. The answer, contrary to common belief, is not a single number but a rate set by prefectural decree — which changed in January 2026. Here is the full breakdown of official prices, possible surcharges, and comparable alternatives.

Official flat-rate fares (2026 prefectural decree)

Since 2016, Paris taxis have applied a mandatory flat rate on trips between central Paris and the airports of Roissy-CDG and Orly, set by Paris Prefecture of Police decree. This rate does not depend on traffic, time of day, day of the week, or number of passengers (within vehicle capacity). It is displayed on the outside of the taxi and must appear on the receipt.

The Seine is the border: the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th (north part), 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissements are "Right Bank". The 5th, 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and the south part of the 4th (Île Saint-Louis) are "Left Bank". If in doubt, confirm with the driver before departure.

Beauvais-Tillé is NOT covered by the flat rate. The Paris-Beauvais airport is 85 km from Paris, outside the 75 and 93 départements, and the taxi runs on the meter. What the flat rate actually includes

The CDG or Orly flat fare covers:

• Transport for up to 4 adult passengers
• Luggage (no surcharge)
• Tolls on the direct route
• Initial waiting time up to 10 minutes at pick-up

It does not include:

• The 5th passenger (~€3 surcharge)
• Unplanned intermediate stops
• Waiting beyond 10 minutes if the customer is late
• Pets in a cage (~€3 surcharge)
• Exceptional surcharges (e.g. major disruptions declared by the prefect)

Drivers are required to give you change. Tipping is not mandatory but customary (5-10% for service judged good).

Surcharges some drivers try to apply

Three abusive practices are regularly reported by foreign travellers:

The "pre-night rate" — Some drivers apply a night tariff from 7 pm instead of midnight. The airport flat rate runs 24/7, so this surcharge has no legal basis. Demand the official receipt, refuse cash-without-receipt.

The "off-flat toll" — The CDG/Orly flat rate includes tolls. A driver asking you to pay the A1 or A6 toll separately is in breach. A photo of the receipt is enough to file a complaint with the Paris Prefecture of Police.

The "roadwork detour" — Some drivers exploit travellers unfamiliar with Paris to lengthen the route. The flat rate is the same whichever road is used. You do not pay more for traffic jams or construction.

In case of dispute, note the plate number (visible at the back and front) and report the driver to 0 820 00 35 35 (Paris Prefecture of Police — taxi bureau).

Honest comparison with Uber and premium VTCs

The Paris taxi, despite its flaws, has a major advantage for airport trips: the price is fixed, known in advance, and legally binding. But it is no longer the only fixed-price option.

Uber (UberX category) displays an estimated price before the ride but applies dynamic pricing during peak hours, strikes, or Paris-wide events (Music Day, Olympics, major conferences). A Paris → CDG Uber X at €50 at 2 pm can reach €90 at 5.30 pm on a Friday. Uber's "locked price" is only locked until confirmation — in case of cancellation, a new estimate reflects the current surge.

Premium independent VTCs apply a definitively fixed rate, announced at booking time and guaranteed regardless of market conditions, right then or hours later. The Paris flat-rate taxi suits you if: you are solo or a couple, not in a rush, travelling light, and visiting Paris for the first time in explorer mode. The €56-65 rate is unbeatable.

Uber suits you if: you are flexible on timing, travel light, comfortable with apps, and accept that the estimate may not be final. Attractive in off-peak hours (10 am-4 pm, Sunday mornings).

Premium VTC chauffeur suits you if: you are arriving for business and image matters, travelling with family or bulky luggage, have sensitive timings (early morning flight or long-haul return), or welcoming a VIP client. The €40-60 premium over a taxi reflects a measurable service difference.

The unlicensed taxi trap at the airport

One last critical point for foreign travellers: upon arrival at CDG or Orly, never follow a driver who approaches you in the arrivals hall offering a transfer to Paris. These are illegal taxis ("touts") who charge €100-200 for the same trip officially at €56-65, often without receipt and without passenger insurance.

Real Paris taxis only wait at stands labelled "TAXIS" outside the terminal. Legitimate VTCs (Uber, private chauffeurs) wait outside or in dedicated Meet & Greet zones per each airport's rules.
